Behind the Scenes - Belize Episode

So, we made it back from Belize with a lot of content for the show, and even more mosquito bites.
While we were there the Travel Thru History crew documented...

Belize City

  • The Swing Bridge - A mechanical marvel that pivots a large metal bridge in the middle of a channel.
  • The Baron Bliss Lighthouse
  • The Belize National Museum - a collection of artifacts documenting the history of the country from the Baymen to modern times.
  • Yarborough Cemetery - The first cemetery in British Honduras (Belize's former name.)
Mayan Ruins
  • Lamanai - a Mayan archaeological site that encompasses a variety of Mayan temples including the Jaguar temple and the High temple.  There is also an ancient Mayan ball court. At the site there are gigantic Mayan temples completely covered by foliage that no modern person has ever laid eyes on.
The Blue Hole
  • An amazing sinkhole in the ocean! It's like as if the sea had a drain plug. You can dive the Blue Hole and have a completely unique experience.
Here's some behind the scenes action.

The High Temple - Lamanai

Yaborough Cemetery - Approx. 1000 degrees.

Belize River on the way to Lamanai - Use deet.

Pro tip: The best stabilizer is your head.

Staged photo.  Joe mostly just enjoyed the ride to Lamanai.
